New legislation filed in U.S. Congress to stop downsizing of Central Illinois postal service

Logansport - Circa June 2018: USPS Post Office Mail Trucks. The Post Office is Responsible for Providing Mail Delivery IV

The United States Postal Service has announced plans earlier this year to downsize in Central Illinois, but a local Illinois member of the United States Congress has filed a bill that would halt that idea.

USPS has proposed changing nearly 60 processing and
distribution centers across the nation to just processing centers, including ones in Champaign and Springfield.

Rep. Nikki Budzinski filed a bill that would make it illegal for the USPS to close any P&DC in markets underperforming on their delivery deadline goals; the Illinois congresswoman called USPS’s proposal “misguided”.
