Springfield Police investigating weekend shootings

The Springfield Police Department has announced it is carrying out investigations into two shootings which occurred in the West Side over the weekend on the night of the 21st, and then a few hours later in the early morning hours of the 22nd.

At this time the SPD says it is unclear if the following shooting incidents are related:

  • On September 21, 2024 at approximately 11:09 PM, SPD states that officers responded to a call of a subject being shot in the 2500 block of Milford Drive. Upon arrival officers located a 15 year old male with a gunshot wound to his face. He was transported to HSHS St. John’s for treatment. After surgery the injury was determined to be non-life threatening. Detectives arrived on scene to investigate as well as crime scene services to collect evidence. There was an initial dispute between the two groups of juveniles in the 2700 block of W. Lawrence Ave. The disturbance of both groups resumed in the 2500 block of Milford Drive where the shooting occurred. Detectives are continuing to investigate this shooting.
  • Later that night at approximately 2:36 AM September 22, Springfield Police responded to the 300 block of South State Street, for a report of a shooting. Residents reported that an unknown person shot multiple rounds into the back of the residence. One of the rounds struck a 15 year old male who had been in the kitchen area at the time the shots were fired. The juvenile male had a wound to his lower body and was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital for treatment. The victim was taken to surgery and the injury was determined to be non-life threatening. Crime scene services responded to collect evidence and detectives are currently investigating this shooting as well.
